• Black Bull 30-Year is a blended Scotch whisky, produced by Duncan Taylor (which now owns the Black Bull brand).

• It’s bottled at 50% ABV, which is stronger than many standard bottlings. 

• Where this expression stands out: instead of blending mature whiskies shortly before bottling (as many blends do), this one was reportedly “blended at birth” — malt and grain new-make spirit were combined, then matured together in casks (sherry/oak) for 30 years.

Based on expert reviews and tasting notes, Black Bull 30-Year typically delivers:

• Nose (aroma): Rich and complex — expect dark fruit (raisins, figs), stewed fruit notes, dried fruit cake, perhaps a touch of wood smoke, vanilla, floral undertones (sometimes described as honeysuckle or geranium-like), and polished oak. 

• Palate (taste): Full-bodied and richly textured. Flavours of fruit cake, chocolate-covered cherry, fig cake or raisin chutney, orange-almond scone, toffee, sometimes espresso or dark chocolate, sweet baking spices (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg) and a noticeable sherry-cask influence — but balanced by the grain component, which adds some restraint and drinkability. 

• Finish: Long, often with spice (tobacco leaf, cinnamon), old oak, polished leather — a warm, lingering finish.
